Suprbay.org serves as a switch for The Pirate Bay users in case The Pirate Bay domain goes offline.
The official web forum of The Pirate Bay, Suprbay.org, is the latest victim of an apparent cyberattack that forced its site to remain offline for several days.
What is SuprBay?
The forum was launched in August as the torrent hosting platform’s official forum. The Pirate Bay and other sites are connected to SuprBay. This forum allows users to request torrent reseeding and report malware found on torrent sites or illegal content uploaded on The Pirate Bay.
Suprbay Has been Offline for Several Days:
According to a report from TorrentFreak, the SuprBay forum has been inaccessible for a few days. This platform serves as a switch for The Pirate Bay users in case the main site goes offline, as it has been targeted several times in hacking incidents. When The Pirate Bay goes offline, SuprBay remains online, and users can check The Pirate Bay’s status.
What Could Have Happened?
Although the forum administrator didn’t reveal much about the reason behind the site’s inaccessibility, and The Pirate Bay hasn’t released a statement regarding its status, fellow administrator Spud17 shared suspicion that it could be the work of an outsider.
Spud 17 also said that the entire server could be compromised, but whatever happened didn’t affect the main site.
Was User Data Compromised?
Torrent Freak reports that the SuprBay administrator has confirmed that user data was not compromised. The site remains offline, and whoever tries to access this forum gets a connection timeout error. On the site’s Dark Web version (the .onion domain), the following message is displayed:
According to Spud 17, if Moe takes action, it is possible to reconstruct the forum using previous backups, which can take up to two weeks.
